Production Task One : Photography

The process of taking the photos for my magazine and website are taking longer than i expected, this is because of my time management and also my friends, for example, different work schedules and weather. However i have managed to create one cover for my magazine and an image for my contents page, they have turned out slightly different to the images i drew and planned, especially my first cover. The image changed as when i was taking all the photos of my friends, i tried many angles, and poses in order to take the perfect photo for my magazine front cover, but also a photo that i could easily link to the main focus of the magazine.

This is an example of the mass of photos i have taken in order to find the perfect image for my first cover. I gave my friends my plan of how i wanted their outfits, hair and makeup to look and i am happy i did as i think it represents the edgy side to the drum and bass genre. The mise-en-scene to this photos creates a cool look to the image, on some photos i left the brightness all the way up, however, i found that dimming the brightness on the photos managed to add more depth to not only the background and graffiti but also my friends positions and outlines.

This is the photo I have chosen for my first editions's contents page, as it ties in with the main image, i believe this is a perfect image as it once again contains the graffiti i incorporated previously to emphasis the idea of it being a drum and base magazine. furthermore, i have edited this image so that the brightness and resolution is higher, this is so that the audience can clearly see the image.

This is the photo that I have chosen to be the main image on my first edition of BEATZ. My friends Maggie and Ruby modeled for me in a tunnel near new estate, Kettering. I have had to edit this photo to ensure that the exposure was not too low and that the highlights of the photo stand out. I have chosen this location and mise en scene due to the genre of my music magazine being drum and bass, in my opinion the graffiti and the choice of street wear style represents this genre.

This is the second photo i have chosen for my magazine contents page I am lucky enough that my brothers good mate is a local DJ from Market Harborough. I was ale to film with him next to decks for his practice set before everyone came to see him. This links perfectly with my plan for my front cover, however, i am now using this as an image for my contents page as i need my front cover to be a more direct eye contact with the camera, as seen on other music magazines.

The image below i have not chosen for my front cover due to the blur of the photo, which will affect the quality of the magazine front cover, but also the clear image to the readers will be disrupted.

These are some of the photos i have taken, i was inspired from other music magazines, where the main focus is one the artist/performer. I have used a range of colors within the photos to create the idea of being at a concert/rave/festival.
